The courtroom drama surrounding the trial of former President Donald Trump has taken another turn, with new revelations about alleged efforts to plant false stories about his political rivals. According to testimony by David Pecker, the former CEO of American Media Inc., Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen and Trump himself reached an agreement in 2016 to run fake news stories about their opponents.

One story that was shown to the jury appeared on March 30, 2016, with a headline that read: 'TED CRUZ SEX SCANDAL – 5 SECRET MISTRESSES.' The subheading stated: 'The romps that are rocking his presidential campaign!' Pecker confirmed that the articles were run in accordance with the agreement he says he reached with Trump and Cohen.

This is not the first time that fake news stories about Trump's opponents have been brought to light during the trial. Earlier, the prosecution showed screenshots of allegedly planted stories about Ben Carson and Ted Cruz on screens inside the courtroom.

The legal teams had a private conversation at the judge's bench before excusing the jurors for a short break. The prosecution was asking Pecker about Steve Bannon's involvement in the alleged scheme, but Trump defense lawyer Emil Bove objected to the line of questioning.
